My New Job
I started a new position last week in the outpatient surgery department. I was working as needed on the floor but the schedule didn't work out like I had hoped. Most of the available shifts were evening, nights and weekends and that meant a lot of time away from Brad. I also got canceled a few times and that stinks. So I took a full time position in outpatient surgery and I love it! I didn't really want to work 40 hours a week but I'd rather do that and have a better schedule than work odd hours and have them cut sometimes. I miss my coworkers on the floor - they were all very good to me - but I've got a great new group of people to work with and they have a 'team effort' work ethic. I'm getting to see a lot of neat procedures like colonoscopies and feeding tube placements. And bonus - I got off early today!

Day at the Pumpkin Patch
We took our little guy to the pumpkin patch last weekend and we all had a good time. It was my first time to go as well and we will definitely go back next year. They took us on a hay ride and showed us the farm animals, including a zedonk (1/2 zebra, 1/2 donkey), then took us out to the patch where we picked out a couple of pumpkins. Will seemed to like them and was very interested in the hay. I think he'll like it a lot more next year when he can run around.

Chunky Monkey
Will had his 6 month checkup this morning. Poor little guy got 3 shots and an oral vaccine but he did great. He really wanted to help me fill out the paperwork. He is getting so busy! Here are his stats from today:
20 lbs 8 oz
27 3/4 inches
18 inch head circ
That puts him in the 90th percentile for all 3 measurements. He's a big little fella!

6 months ago tonight...
... I was in the hospital getting ready to meet my little guy! I went in because my blood pressure had gone up and I was feeling very hot and flushed. My blood pressure came down and my labwork was fine but I was already 5 cm dilated and was contracting, though not regularly. My Dr. decided to keep me and induce me the next morning. What a fun night that was! It was the last night that Brad and I had just the 2 of us. He zonked out on the sofa while I was up every hour peeing because of the IV fluids, and well, lets face it, I was 9 months pregnant. I would get up, unhook the fetal monitors, unplug the IV pump and waddle my way to the bathroom, trying to avoid waking my husband up. Why I was so concerned about him getting some good rest, I'm not quite sure! Will was less than thrilled about having the monitors strapped to my belly since he was constantly moving, seemingly trying to escape them. It was such and exciting night and I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat. Above is the only picture we have before I started having the very painful pitocin-induced contractions. I don't think I smiled again until I got the epidural, just about 2 hours before he was born.
On a sad note, I found out tonight that the nurse who took care of me that night was killed in a car accident on Tuesday. Her name was Ryan and she was very kind and gentle. She was only 29 and left behind a husband and 2 daughters. Please keep her family in your prayers.

Who are you voting for?
I know who I'm voting for, but for those of you who are undecided, here's a little matching game to show you who you agree with the most:

Congrats Mr. and Mrs. Borer!
Haven and Will

My family
One of my dear friends from high school and college got married last weekend. My other friends and I were honorary bridesmaids. Cathryn actually introduced me to Brad, so I was very happy to see her marry her sweetheart. It was fun to see a lot of friends from the W there and visit at the reception. The reception food was like no other - pulled pork, brisket, greens, lima beans, mac and cheese, potato salad, baked beans, rolls and cornbread. The only thing missing to complete the Southern feast was some sweet tea!
