The Faces of Will

Doesn't matter which one he's doing - I love them all!

Battle Scars

Will had his 2 month checkup yesterday (even though he's not quite 2 months yet). He was 12 lbs even, which puts him in the 75th percentile and was 22.5 inches which is off the charts for his age. He also got 3 shots. Poor baby has the bandaids to prove it (just below his onesie). I gave him Tylenol a few times because he seemed fussy and I figured he was sore. But he was in fairly good humor most of the day. I think this is one of the few times I put him down yesterday. I pretty much just held him all day, only putting him down to use the bathroom or get some food.

Bumbo Boy

Tasty Hands
Big Yawn!!
About to topple
My cousin Russ came to visit yesterday and brought Will a Bumbo. Its supposed to be for ages 3-14 months and Will isn't quite 2 months yet, but I couldn't resist putting him in it! His head control isn't perfect but he did pretty well for a minute and seemed to like it. I'm sure he'll enjoy it a lot more when his head is more steady, but it was pretty neat seeing him sit up. We will definitely be using this more in the future. Thank you Russ and Megan! We love it!

My sister-in-law and I took the kids to the Natural Science Museum Wednesday. Will slept through most of it but I really enjoyed seeing my nieces and nephew explore. They had a new dinosaur exhibit and they loved excavating the bones. Alex had a blast running away from his sisters and when Will was awake, he seemed to enjoy the whale bones hanging from the ceiling. It was a fun day!

I caught a...

Smiling mohawk baby! Not the greatest pic of his hawk, but more will follow soon!

Peanut'in it

This is our friend Josh practicing with Will in the Peanut Shell. Josh and his wife Stephanie are expecting their first baby, Sadie, in just a few weeks. We can't wait to meet her!

So Strong!

This kid gets stronger everyday! He's able to support some weight on his legs for brief periods and has pretty good head control. In the tummy time video you can see him push his butt straight up in the air and ends up scooching over the pillow. I keep telling him to stop trying to grow up so fast! (sorry for the sideways standing one - I tried to change it and it keeps reverting to the original)

My How He Grows!

Will is nearly 6 weeks old and changing everyday! The picture on the left was taken at 6 days old and he was 6lb 10oz that day. The picture on the right was taken today and he is over 10lb already! I hope he doesn't continue to gain 1lb a week because he'll run out of summer clothes before summer ends! He can still wear the same outfit because it was so huge on him to begin with. He is starting to make cooing noises that I catch every now and then. He half-smiled at his Nana on Saturday while looking at her but since he has yet to smile at me or Brad, we're blaming that on gas. We want the first real smile!!

Mother's Day

We celebrated my first Mother's Day yesterday by having will dedicated at our church. We're Baptist, so we didn't have him Christened or anything but it was like a simple commitment ceremony that we will raise him in a Godly home and have him involved in the church. We stayed for the whole service and he was wonderful! My sister-in-law, Emily, gave us a beautiful smocked gown that he wore and of course as soon as I got it buttoned he spit up on it. But it dried before the service started. I need to get more pictures of him in it. You can't really tell how pretty it is in the few pictures we got then we had to take it off to put him in his carseat. After church, Brad gave me 2 sweet cards, one from him and one from Will. Then we went out to eat and went to a few stores at Dogwood. I enjoyed spending the day with my boys!

One Month Old!

Jake the Faithful Babysitter

Thoughtful

There's a spider on his romper! (don't worry, its fabric)

Not happy with mommy for taking his picture

Will was a month old on Saturday. It doesn't seem fair that time is passing so quickly. I'm excited to see him grow and change but I want him to stay tiny at the same time. We've learned a lot in the past month! For instance:

  • He HATES being naked! He screams when his diaper is off. I think he'd rather sit in a dirty one that have it changed.

  • If you don't cover up his privates with a washcloth during a bath, you're asking for a shower!

  • He's slow to wake like his mommy. He gets very cranky until he's alert then he's a happy boy (as long as he gets fed promptly).

  • He's an angel when he has an audience. He rarely cries if we're in public or there are grandparents around.

  • He loves riding in the car. Once its clicked in the base, he calms down if he was upset.

  • He doesn't seem to mind our 90lb golden retriever, Jake, licking him in the face or his hands or his head. We try to prevent this, but that tongue is quick!

Mrs. Oglesby

Meeting Haven
Meeting Alyssa
I finished mine - nursing makes you thirsty!
Hanging out with Laura
W Girls and an upset baby

My sweet friend from college, Lea Ann, became Mrs. Steve Oglesby on May 3rd. It was a beautiful ceremony and she was a gorgeous bride. I was so glad we got to go because my due date with Will was April 29th and I wasn't sure we'd make it. But Will decided to come early so we were there! It was our first trip outside the Jackson area and he did great. He got to meet Lea Ann, Haven, Alyssa and Laura for the first time. I'm not even sure they said 'Hello' to me! As I remember it, they pretty much greeted me with outstretched arms and said "Give me the baby!". I guess that's how it will be from now on! I also got to visit with Cathryn, Tori and Mary Martha for a few minutes. It is so nice to get together and celebrate these wonderful life changes!

We're Home!

We got home this evening and are all doing well. The echocardiogram revealed Will has a couple of minor heart defects. He has an atrial septal defect which is pretty common in newborns and often closes on its own by about 18 months old. He also has a smaller than normal pulmonary artery (it takes the blood from the heart to the lungs to be oxygenated). We did not talk to the cardiologist, so we don't know much about the prognosis for that. The cardiologist just interpreted the echo and the resident pediatrician let us know what he said. We won't see the cardiologist until November which is very frustrating to Brad but for me is a good sign. I figure if it was something serious and that needed quick intervention they wouldn't make us wait 6 months to see the expert. We will go back to our pediatrician on Monday and I plan to ask him more questions then. They are going to treat him for reflux as well so he will be on Zantac in the meantime. Thank you for all of your prayers and concern!

We Need Your Prayers!

We went to the doctor today because Will has had a few episodes where he's holding his breath and turns blue. I didn't think much of it at first because the first 2 times we were under flourescent lighting and I thought that was the reason. He would start breathing normally again so it didn't have me too worried but I called his pediatrician anyway. The dr. thinks its reflux and its blocking his airway momentarily, but he wants to rule out any heart problems. We have to leave in a little while and be admitted to the children's hospital to have some tests run. We should be discharged tomorrow morning. Luckily, Brad had already taken today and tomorrow off, so at least we'll all be together! My gut tells me everything is fine but I'd appreciate your prayers anyway. Its scary to think our baby could have heart problems, so pray that all the tests reveal that its fine.
